WITH PROJECT AT TERRY MILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Dekalb County School System Chooses
Local Firm to Handle 1.3 Million Addition
ATLANTA- (April 2004) Devcon Construction Group, Inc., a general
contracting company based in Atlanta, was recently awarded a 1.3
million dollar construction contract for Terry Mill Elementary School
in Dekalb County. The project will include a new six-classroom addition
as well as extensive site work and renovations to existing space.
Devcon Construction stood out among the other bidders because they
proposed several value-engineering ideas to Dekalb County and lowered
the estimated job cost by $75,500.
“We suggested redesigning the
site detention pond and eliminating a large retaining wall. In addition,
we proposed eliminating items not required by code such as fireproofing
and gypsum board/ vapor barrier specified for new roofing,”
says Devcon President Rex Wallin. “We were also able to deduct
some
costs by substituting products of equal value and function.”
Construction on Terry Mill Elementary
began in March 2004 and is expected to be complete by October 2004.
The finished job will allow the school
to accommodate 100 more students beginning in the fall.
